Elias “Alchemy & Allegory”
“dreams are the natural reaction of the self-regulating psychic system.” (Jung, 1959a, 1968)
The collection “Alchemy & Allegory” was realized in 2023, guided by the idea that man is more complete than just pure rationality, and at the same time not as mystical as many esoteric schools would like to claim. One of the guiding principles of the collection is that dreams, symbols and magic are part of the daily psychological process of a person. The mind is logical, but our subconscious is not only subject to logic, and therefore we need allegory, mythology, art, fairy tales in our lives. Alchemy and religion can also be interpreted in this way as therapy of a bygone age: although today we prefer the purer controlled method, that is, working on ourselves somewhere in the white office, but it is worth asking ourselves if the subconscious is subject only to words and rationality?
The artist is interested in elements that awaken something from the subconscious, which create feelings that the viewer does not quite know how to interpret and thus create the opportunity to face this unconscious part. Therefore, no painting can have a single interpretation, but only a personal interpretation.
Eliis (Eliis Kuusk) is a surrealist painter whose main themes are the human body and inner life. Influenced by the world of film and photography, each of his images tries to convey narrative and movement. He likes to play with form, bright colors and movement, and prefers materials and brushstrokes that can be felt and seen.
